The Will-U-Lead course, better described as an online lab exercise, focuses on essential fundamental principles of leadership; fostering trust, sharing vision, developing strategy, energizing alliances, activating transformation or change and measuring results.

The 29 questions in the leadership self assessment correspond with the 29 behaviors outlined under the 6 fundamental principles in the course where you will select a real life challenge to which you will be coached in solving as you apply these principles and behaviors.

You will be encouraged to repeat the exercise with other challenges to help you internalize the principles and behaviors and increase your leadership effectiveness for greater power and influence.



Dr. Merrell has a long professional history, including as an advisor to the White House and Executive Office of the U. S. President. In his mid twenties he directed America's largest university adult education program. Dr. Merrell authored the president's strategy for assessing and improving leaders among senior executives of the U. S. government. That strategy was issued as a Presidential Executive Order and has been implemented continuously throughout the country since the early 1970s.

Merrell earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and the School of Public and International Affairs. Earlier he was awarded the Master of Public Administration by USC, and a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University. He was a Post Doctoral Fellow in Washington, D. C. where he created pioneering strategies for finding and developing leaders at all levels in business and government.

Dr. Merrell is author of the Merrell Index of Presidential Leadership, a study of U.S. presidents since FDR and selected presidential candidates. He has presented his findings at political and management forums, and to millions on regional and national media.

As a private consultant, Dr. Merrell worked with the Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of IBM, Xerox, and other companies on human resources and education programs. He wrote the White House report on private sector initiatives for public education, and formulated the policy and strategy that was implemented as the president's principle education program. He has served on the National Advisory Council of the Marriott School of Management at BYU.

Merrell is the author of books and journal articles, and his work has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and by the American Management Association. He has been invited on CNN and interviewed by other national media. His has lectured at universities and on international satellite to worldwide audiences. As a young man Dr. Merrell was recruited as a candidate for the United States Senate in Maryland. He served as a worldwide General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has been the primary liaison with the Vatican and papal councils of the Catholic Church since 1995.

He and his wife, Karen Dixon Merrell, have been married since 1959 and are the parents of nine children and the grandparents of 41 grandchildren. Karen authored four best selling children books and has been a university lecturer.
